National Museums reward winners of recent competition

Various holiday activities are hosted during the school holidays every year by the National Museums. Every year, the activities are evaluated in order to inspire people to learn, appreciate, and take constructive actions to preserve and safeguard the natural, historical, and cultural heritage of Seychelles.

For the past 30 years, the National Museums have been active in museum education through a museum holiday club programme and an outreach programme targeting schools and the community at large. The National Museums have partnered with different organisations to make sure the programmes are successful.

The National Museums’ two main initiatives for 2022 included a traveling exhibition entitled “The History of Slavery in the Seychelles” and an outreach programme to schools, “Museum in a Box,” with the aim of bringing the Natural History Museum closer to the community.

A school competition, untitled “The History of Slavery in Seychelles,” was also launched with the aim of disseminating and extending knowledge to students on various aspects of the history of slavery in Seychelles. It comprised of three categories: Poems, Drawings, Drama.

The closing ceremony of the traveling exhibition was held on December 15, 2022 , whereby winners of the competition were presented with their prizes. Children who took part in various holiday activities also received prizes during the ceremony.
