Seychelles celebrates International Archives Day
Employees of the Seychelles National Archives who have clocked more than 20 years of service were rewarded in a special ceremony held last Friday.
The ceremony was organised to mark the International Archives Day which falls on June 9. The Secretary General of the Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts (SNICHA) David Andre, permanent secretary Cecile Kalebi, executive director for Acquisition, Conservation, Research and Access to Information at SNICHA Julienne Barra and the former director of the Seychelles National Archives Alain Lucas were among the invitees.
Addressing those present, the acting director of the Seychelles National Archives Terry Nibourette said this year’s theme #ArchivesAreYou is urging us to reflect on the importance of archives, as it safeguards our country’s past stories; it protects the memory of our nation.
On her part, Miss Barra echoed words of thanks to the staff members of the Seychelles National Archives.
She has called on them to reflect on their work and to remember that the duties being carried out at the Seychelles National Archives are important.
During the ceremony, the longest-serving employee Marie-France Azemia who has served a little more than three decades at the Seychelles National Archives, 31 years in total, received a special mention, a certificate of recognition and a token of appreciation.
Nadette Octave was also recognised during the ceremony even if she has spent 12 years at the Seychelles National Archives, she has clocked a total of 42 years in the culture department, which is now SNICHA.
For the day, an exhibition was also mounted at the Roche Caiman community centre where the ceremony was held. The exhibition was showcasing the work of the Records Management Unit which has also celebrated its 10th year since its opening on June 12, 2012.
