Joining together to pray for world peace

People from different religious denominations gathered at the St Joseph’s Convent in Victoria recently for a thanksgiving mass animated by the Seychelles National Choir.

The mass was hosted in collaboration with the Diocese of Port Victoria Seychelles and the St Joseph Convent Seychelles.

The aim of the mass was to bring people from different religious denominations together to pray for world peace at a time when many innocent people are suffering from the impacts of violent conflicts in various parts of the world.

Bishop Alain Harel of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Port Victoria presided over the mass which coincided with the Ascension of Jesus.

Speaking after the mass, the choir’s conductor Xiaoju Lownam described the mass as a fantastic experience for the choir members.

It was an honour to animate this thanksgiving mass. Sincere thanks to Bishop Harel and the St Joseph Convent in providing us with such a meaningful opportunity and place of worship, she added.

“On behalf of the choir, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all those who trusted, supported and helped us for this event.”

The thanksgiving mass is one of the main activities on the choir’s calendar of events.

Mrs Lownam also echoed words of thanks to the National Arts and Crafts Council (NACC) for the support, and encouragement.

Among those attending the mass were the Ambassador of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Francesca Alexandra Azaïs and the executive director of NACC Jimmy Savy.
